2. Coaches of Louisville: Lisa Groft (Carter Elementary, JTMS, DCAC)

For this month's episode of Coaches of Louisville we had the opportunity to interview Lisa Groft. As you will discover throughout this interview Lisa has her hands full, but she is loving each thing she is involved in. Her relationship with running did not begin until she was in her early twenties. After completing her first race she fell in love with the sport and never looked back. Coaching cross country and track was never something she sat out to do but when the opportunity arose, she did not hesitate when saying yes. Her coaching career began because her son's elementary team needed a coach. Now she is the coach at Carter Elementary, Johnson Middle School, and in the off season is one of the coaches with Derby City Athletic Club. What she has learned while coaching younger athletes is that making practice fun has to be at the forefront. Yes, the athletes will run workouts and work hard but she makes sure they are enjoying practice. She is instilling in them lessons which will last for a lifetime. It is evident Lisa loves coaching and the families she is able to connect with. We hope you enjoy this episode.
